Community Events

Every year the people of Lawrence County have the opportunity to participate in hundreds of events in the City of New Castle and surrounding area.  The events are made possible through the efforts and hard work of dedicated committees and volunteers.  We invite you and your family to the City of New Castle to enjoy all of the events that take place year round, season after season …

Springtime in New Castle is more than raindrops and fresh blossoms, it’s about events like the “Soap Box Derby.”  A local car club, the Rapid Tappets, produces the event, with the winner advancing on to Akron, Ohio to compete with other community winners in the National competition.

Many people do not know that New Castle has been nicknamed the “Fireworks Capital of America.”  During the summertime the sky over New Castle is exploding with fireworks, especially during the annual “Fireworks Festival.”  Thousands and thousands of people come together to enjoy not only the “Fireworks Festival” but the “Back To The Fifties Car Cruise”, and the summer concert series at Cascade Park.

Fall may signal the trees to begin to prepare for the winter months ahead, but downtown New Castle is preparing for the annual “Veteran’s Day Parade” and “Light Up Night Parade”.  Both of these parades allow community groups to show off their stuff.

Wintertime brings a “Cascade of Lights” throughout historic Cascade Park.  The twinkling lights and the natural landscape provide thousands of people a chance to sit back and reflect during the holiday season.
