The New Castle Health Department is a part time agency located in the City's municipal building at 230 N. Jefferson Street, New Castle, Pennsylvania 16101-2220. The department provides public health and safety services to approximately 23,300 residents in a 7.7 square mile area.
The New Castle Health Department employs a part time Pennsylvania certified health officer. The health officer is responsible for the inspection and certification of all food and drinking establishments in the City of New Castle. Other duties involve:
- Water testing.
- Residential and commercial complaints.
- Institutional (hospitals, nursing homes, and schools) inspections.
- New or transferring of health licensing for establishments.
Under the Third Class City Code of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a five member Board of Health oversees the duties of the health officers. They, along with the health officer, recommend any additions or changes to the local health code.
