Police Department

The New Castle Police Department is a full time police agency located at 230 N. Jefferson Street, New Castle, Pennsylvania 16101-2220.  The department is located in the central part of the downtown area within the city's municipal building, and provides public safety and service to approximately 28,500 residents in a 7.7 square mile area.  The police department is the largest police agency in Lawrence County.

The New Castle Police Department employs full time police officers and two civilians.  The uniform division consists of a Traffic Bureau, Patrol Bureau, and a Domestic Violence Unit.  The non-uniform division consists of a Detective Bureau, Narcotic Bureau, and Juvenile Bureau. Personnel include a Chief of Police, Lieutenants, Sergeants, and full time Patrolmen.

Police officers are civil service employees and are required to have Pennsylvania Act 120 training (Police Certification) before they can perform any police duties. The Act also requires 12 hours of update training each year. Officers are also trained in first aid, CPR, Vascar, firearms, and various other in-service training. Full time police officers are also reimbursed for obtaining police related college credits .
